Altar Servers

Why do we do it ?

Altar Servers are involved in the worship life of the Church and their primary role is to make sure that the services are carried out in a devout and orderly manner. It is often their way of reflecting Christ's mission in coming to serve.

What does it involve ?

In practical terms, Altar Servers prepare the sanctuary for services and ensure that they run smoothly and without a hitch, which often means adjusting the pattern of the service and coping with "mid-flight" variations!
Their guidance can be particularly useful to visiting priests.

Does it require any particular gifts or skills ?

A good knowledge of the services and their structure is an important pre-requisite, as is the ability to adapt and be aware of what is happening (or not!) around you. Most of the practical aspects can be easily picked up by appropriate training which can be arranged for anyone interested.

How much time does it need ?

Serving should be seen as a regular commitment, with requirements beyond just the weekly 10 a.m. Sunday Service. Servers need to arrive in sufficient time before the services for preparations and remain briefly afterwards to clear away.

If you are a regular, confirmed member of St Bartholomew's congregation
and feel that you might like to be involved in this way,
please do not hesitate to contact myself (Paul Durrant ~ Head Server) or any of the clergy.
