A cursory reading of Luke's gospel records dozens of instances of Jesus healing others. Perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised that Luke took such an interest in healing - after all, he was a doctor!!
That stories of healing are so central to Jesus' ministry has often been overlooked by the church, which has had its heart and mind set on other things. But we at St Barts take seriously the great commission of Jesus (Matthew 28. 19-20) to make disciples and to teach them to obey all of Jesus teaching. Since those first disciples were taught to pray for healing, we believe that it is an act of simple obedience to seek to do the same.
And we have been truly blessed by the answers we have received, for we have seen God do amazing things! We have seen both physical healing as well as people helped in everyday situations concerned with their families or their work. The most important thing is that people report when they have been prayed for, they know they have been touched by God.
On the first Sunday of (Usually) every other month at 6 p.m., we hold healing services with Holy Communion (For dates see Events Page). These services are very low key and open to all. Some seek anointing with oil during the administration of communion, their healing need known to them and God alone, while others remain behind after the service to share with members of the healing team and to be prayed for. It is all very gentle and yet many have testified to its power.
